HI, We’re Oliver & YAz…

After years of professional experience as Funeral Directors, Celebrants, and Business Founders, we created The Funeral Fix to support current and future Funeral Professionals in building modern, meaningful, and sustainable practices.

Between us, we’ve arranged and directed hundreds of funerals, guided families through some of the hardest days of their lives, and helped create ceremonies that left people feeling seen, supported, and even uplifted in their grief.

The Funeral Fix Funeral Director Training was born out of a clear gap in the market. When we first stepped into funeral work, we searched for practical, comprehensive training that covered not just the logistics, but also the emotional intelligence and modern practices required in today’s profession. It didn’t exist. Instead, it took years of learning on the job, trial and error, and piecing together knowledge from multiple sources. We realised that future Funeral Directors deserve better, and after 2 years of building this course - it’s finally here!

 FAQs

  • In Australia, there are currently no formal legal requirements or mandatory qualifications to work as a Funeral Director. However, that doesn’t mean anyone should just step into the role unprepared. Families place extraordinary trust in you during one of the hardest times in their lives, and without proper training you risk making mistakes that can cause real harm.

This course is designed to give you the knowledge, processes, and practical frameworks you need to step into this work with confidence, professionalism, and compassion. It bridges the gap between no requirements and best practice - ensuring you’re prepared both ethically and practically to support families.

  • Just because you can step into funeral work without training doesn’t mean you should.
Funeral Directing involves legal paperwork, sensitive logistics, cultural awareness, emotional intelligence, and the ability to work alongside coroners, cemeteries, crematoria, and grieving families. Getting it wrong can have lasting consequences for families and for your reputation.

By taking this course, you’ll be:

    • Learning best-practice standards from experienced professionals.

    • Building confidence in both the practical and emotional aspects of the role.

    • Preparing yourself for real-world scenarios, so you can avoid unnecessary mistakes.

    • Demonstrating to families (and colleagues) that you’ve invested in doing this work properly.

  • Yes — on successful completion of the course, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion from The Funeral Fix. While this isn’t a government-issued qualification (since none currently exist in Australia), it demonstrates that you’ve undertaken comprehensive training across all aspects of independent funeral directing.

Families, colleagues, and professional partners will see your certification as evidence of your commitment to high standards of practice.

  • No. This course is designed for beginners as well as those already working in related fields like celebrancy, end-of-life care, or community services.

  • The course is self-paced. Most students complete it in around 12 weeks, but you can move faster or slower depending on your availability.

  • Lifetime access! Revisit the content whenever you need a boost or a refresh.

  • Yes — all modules, lessons, and resources are delivered through our Teachable platform. You can access the course from anywhere, at any time, and revisit lessons as often as you like.

  • You won’t be on your own. The course includes access to ongoing support through:

    • Regular live Q&A sessions or huddles with your trainers.

    • Peer discussions and private community spaces.

    • Templates, checklists, and resources you can use immediately.

  • All you need is a computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access. The platform is user-friendly, and no special software is required.

  • Yes. To complete the course, you’ll need to successfully pass:

    • A written multiple-choice quiz.

    • A scenario-based assessment (mock client situation).

    • A reflective self-evaluation.

These assessments are designed to reinforce your learning and ensure you’re ready for real-world practice — without requiring live exams.

  • No. You don’t need your own mortuary or transfer vehicle to complete the course.

However, to operate as a Funeral Director in Australia, you will need access to certain facilities such as a mortuary, suitable storage and transfer equipment, and partnerships with crematoria or cemeteries.

Many new and independent funeral operators choose to partner with existing funeral homes or use shared and independent facilities, which are now available in many regions across Australia.

The course won’t provide access to these facilities, but it will give you the knowledge, confidence and professional framework to navigate this part of your journey when the time comes.

  • No, our Funeral Director Course is not accredited by ASQA and that’s a conscious decision.

Currently, there are no formal training or licensing requirements for Funeral Directors or Funeral Celebrants in Australia. This means you do not need an RTO-accredited qualification to work in the field.

We’ve chosen not to register as an RTO because:

    • Flexibility matters. RTO-accredited training packages can be rigid and slow to update. We want to stay agile, evolving our content as the funeral industry does.

    • We prioritise real-world relevance. Our courses are written and taught by practising Funeral Directors and Celebrants, not by curriculum writers. Everything we teach comes from lived experience and practical knowledge.

    • Accessibility and inclusivity. By remaining independent, we keep our training affordable, accessible, and free from unnecessary red tape.

While not government-accredited, The Funeral Fix courses are widely recognised across Australia’s funeral sector for their comprehensive, emotionally intelligent, and modern approach to funerals.

If you’re looking for training that’s real, relevant, and rooted in heart-led professionalism - you’re in the right place.
